Crew Members of Ships Trading From Newhaven, Sussex 1864-1889

Product Description

Crew Members of Ships Trading From Newhaven, Sussex 1864-1889

In the nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth century every vessel had to submit "half yearly agreements and accounts of voyages and crews". Although not an official log, crewmembers were identified and their age, place of birth, rank, last ship and their pay earned on each voyage were detailed. Sometimes a brief character sketch was also included.

This transcript was taken from the records lodged in the East Sussex Record Office and includes the name of the ship and its owner, the names of the master and crew, their age, rank and place of birth.

These records are a rich vein for family historians and those interested in Britain’s maritime heritage.

Over 1,030 names are included. Fully Indexed.
