IN MEMORIAM - PHYL WEBB

by Mrs. Norma Weir

Sadly I have to say that my dear friend, colleague and business partner Phyl, one of the founders of PBN Publications, passed peacefully away on the 22nd of August, 2006 .

I first met Phyl and Barbara Budd at a Family History Conference which I attended in an effort to meet people, having just moved to Eastbourne in 1985. We all hit it off from the start and eventually, with June Johnson, we founded Family Roots (Eastbourne & District) Family History Society which now, so many years later can boast over 300 members.

Phyl, Barbara and I soon realised that the East Sussex Record Office contained a wealth of information of interest to family historians living outside the county. So began PBN Publications (Phyl, Barbara and Norma). Shortly after this due to other commitments Barbara decided not to continue the partnership. So Phyl and I, over the next fifteen years, had great fun transcribing, indexing and eventually publishing over fifty publications of booklets, fiche and eventually CDs of all sorts of Sussex records. In 2004 we sold PBN to Ian Harvey who is carrying on and expanding our work.

Phyl was active in many fields and will be greatly missed. She ended her life as she had lived it with great resolution and courage.
